Ingredients
  

For the Patty Mixture

  • 1 lb ground beef Freshly ground for tender, juicy patties.

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Adds depth and umami flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder Enhances the meat flavor.

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing the patties.

For the Gravy

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced Provides sweet caramelized flavor.
  • 2 cups beef broth Foundation of the gravy.
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste Enhances flavor and color.
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour Used to thicken the gravy.
  • optional Chopped fresh parsley for garnish Adds freshness.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  • Shape the mixture into four patties, each about 1/2 inch thick.

Cooking the Patties

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the patties to the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.

Making the Gravy

  • In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
  • Stir in the tomato paste and cook for an additional minute.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the onions, stirring to create a roux.
  • Gradually whisk in the beef broth while stirring constantly until the gravy is smooth and thick.
  • Return the patties to the skillet and let them simmer in the gravy for about 5-7 minutes.

Serving

  • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Don’t overmix the beef patties to keep them tender. Allow the gravy to thicken properly for the best consistency. Serve with creamy mashed potatoes or your favorite vegetable side dishes.
