Seven-Layer Taco Salad

Ingredients
  

For the Beef

  • 1 lb lean ground beef Cooked to a tender texture.
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning Rich blend of spices.
  • 1/3 cup water To incorporate seasoning.
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt Added to taste.

For the Dressing

  • 1 cup sour cream Rich and creamy base.
  • 1 teaspoon taco seasoning To flavor the sour cream.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice Adds zesty freshness.

For the Salad

  • 6 cups chopped romaine lettuce Crisp and colorful.
  • 1 can black beans Drained and rinsed.
  • 1 cup corn kernels Sweet and juicy.
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped Roma tomatoes Seeded for added texture.
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Melty and rich.
  • 1 large avocado Diced for creaminess.
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives Briny and savory.
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro Bright and aromatic.
  • 2 cups tortilla chips Lightly crushed.

Optional for Serving

  • to taste lime wedges For extra zest.
  • to taste salsa For serving.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 6-8 minutes, breaking it into small crumbled pieces.
  • Drain any excess fat and add taco seasoning and water to the skillet. Stir well and simmer for 3-4 minutes until most of the liquid evaporates.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together sour cream, remaining taco seasoning, and lime juice until smooth.
  • Prepare the fresh ingredients: Drain beans and corn, chop lettuce, seed and chop tomatoes, dice avocado, slice olives, and chop cilantro.

Assembly

  • In a large serving bowl, layer romaine lettuce, followed by black beans, seasoned beef, corn, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, avocado, and olives.
  • Top with chopped cilantro and add crushed tortilla chips right before serving.

Notes

Ensure avocados are ripe but not overly soft. Maintain crispness of lettuce by washing it fresh right before use. Customize taco seasoning as desired.
