  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce contributing savory depth
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce for sweetness and umami
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce delivering briny flavor
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar balancing the savory
  • 1 teaspoon chili paste (adjust to taste for spiciness)
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, finely diced for sweetness and color
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots providing crunch
  • 1/3 cup fresh Thai basil leaves, chopped adds flavor
  • 12 large butter lettuce leaves for wrapping
  • 2 green onions sliced for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice brightens flavors
  • to taste sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add minced garlic and grated ginger; sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add ground beef and break it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and chili paste. Mix well to coat the beef evenly.
  • Toss in diced red bell pepper and shredded carrots; cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until veggies are slightly tender.
  • Remove from heat, and stir in chopped Thai basil and lime juice.

Assembly

  • Spoon the warm beef mixture into individual lettuce leaves.
  • Garnish with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

Store any leftover beef mixture in an airtight container for up to three days. Use gluten-free soy sauces if needed.
