Ingredients

Pickle Boats

  • 6 whole baby dill pickles These serve as the edible vessel for your tuna filling.
  • 1 can tuna in water, well drained (5 oz / 142 g) Rich in protein, this gives a satisfying base for the dish.
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise Adds creamy texture.
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion Gives a zesty bite.
  • 1 teaspoon honey or sugar, optional Balances the flavors.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Slice the pickles in half lengthwise and scoop out the soft centers.
  • Blot the insides of the pickle halves with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  • Chop the scooped-out pickle centers finely and blot them to keep the mixture from becoming too watery.
  • In a bowl, flake the drained tuna and stir in the mayonnaise, diced red onion, chopped pickle centers, and honey or sugar (if using).
  • Fill each hollowed-out pickle half with the tuna mixture.
  • Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results: Ensure that you drain the tuna well and blot the sliced pickles to prevent soggy filling. You can make the tuna mixture ahead of time to let the flavors meld.
